The Membership Application period is not yet Open

We will be accepting membership applications for the 2024–2025 heating season in the summer, after we negotiate prices with the fuel suppliers.

In the meantime, please register with us to be notified when the 2024–2025 membership application period opens, see that season's prices, and pay your membership fee online.

The mission of the Mid-Hudson Fuel Buying Co-op (MHFBC) is to offer discounted fuels, services, and equipment to its members; and to promote energy conservation and alternative energy use. The MHFBC has been negotiating with local suppliers of propane, fuel oil and kerosene since 2013. We currently serve Ulster, Dutchess, Columbia, Orange, Sullivan and Greene counties.

Each spring, the MHFBC negotiates discounted prices for fuel oil, propane, kerosene, and service contracts for the upcoming season. Registered users must reapply for annual membership each summer, in order to qualify for the MHFBC pricing. Registered users will pay the annual non-refundable membership fee when the sign-up period opens. They then must enter into a one-year contract directly with the supplier for fuel, and other products and services. For 2023-24, the annual non-refundable membership fee is $10 per supplier.

The MHFBC is administered by a small group of unpaid volunteers, who have no connection to the industry or to any heating fuel company. A paid part-time contractor responds to emails and telephone inquiries, and performs other administrative tasks. Members are invited to volunteer for these administrative tasks, which are necessary to keep the Co-op running.

Online registration is available at any time on this website. Creating an account ensures you will be sent further information about the sign-up periods and prices offered each year. Once the new season prices and application period have been negotiated, they are posted on our site's Prices page. They also appear on the MHFBC's Facebook group. The Facebook group is open to everyone, and we encourage comments and posts related to heating and energy conservation issues. Please also read our Q&A page before joining the MHFBC.
